CBS: NCIS Documentary (2017)
The following is a pitch for a CBS: NCIS Documentary opening title sequence.
After discovering the look and feel of this sequence I decided to pursue a direction I called "Submerged"
With a focus on older technologies progressing to contemporary tech, this would emphasize the fifty years of continued service and technological progress of the NCIS.
The images from this moodboard are used only as reference to develop the look/feel.
To begin the development I like to start off with collecting related words, palettes, and images to gain a more refined vision.
In the next phase of production I like to create assets starting off in 3D then moving toward 2D details.
After asset creation look development and palette refinement are my main focus.
Feature 1
With a focus on period surveillance equipment, as the shot pans, each of the screens’ UI animate on as surveillance footage plays in the background.
Feature 2
Camera pan ramps as equipment moves to center frame. A blue wire-frame is revealed as a flare wipes across.
Feature 3
A typewriter rotates into frame as correspondence is being typed. Digital communiques resolve in the background illustrating technological disparity.
Feature 4
Camera pans up to find pages bellowing to the ocean floor. Evidence cards mingle with floating pages and continue their descent.
Feature 5
A projectile rushes into frame leaving a trail of displaced water/bubbles. The projectile slows, twisting center frame. A blue flare wipes across revealing a more modern version of the bullet.
The NCIS letters individually rotate into place in black and chrome. The American flag and fingerprint are slowly revealed to add to the patriotism and mystery; along with depth.
A blue wireframe is revealed as the flare completes the resolve.
